Happy New Year!

HI All,

Happy New Year! My person and I can't believe so much time has gone by!

We have excellent news! My person got her husband to give her Isis' two kittens for my person's birthday! Phoebe looks like her mama (a pretty calico) and Pip is the spitting image of his uncle Ra. We are a happy family of six cats and three humans!

We had some snow here in the Richmond, VA area but it wasn't enough to give everyone a snow day. Most of us are disappointed but SQ says he was glad he wasn't snowed in. We are making sure SQ will have enough food and water to weather a "snowed in" time in his tree. Once we have him prepared, we are hoping for a good squall :->

Don't Forget the Wild Feathered and Furry Ones

Have you heard more birds around lately?

Bird Seed in a feeder or spread on the ground is appreciated by the wild, feathered ones any time of year. During winter and spring, extra food is helpful when their natural diets are hard to find.

It is Very Important that the seed in the feeders does not become moldy. Moldy seed KILLS birds! Check your feeder daily and clean it at least every couple of weeks.

You can clean your feeder with vinegar and water, 9 parts water to one part chlorine bleach (check with your feeder manufacturer to know if bleach will mar your feeder's finish) and there are some bird safe cleaning solutions available (check with stores that cater to wild birds). The birds will reward you with beautiful songs!

Water is the most important thing for the wild ones during freezing temperatures in winter!

Please invest in a UL approved Heated Birdbath or Separate Heater Unit for your birdbath.

We have our heated birdbath plugged in all winter into early spring (use a UL approved outdoor, heavy duty extension cord if the bath is too far from your outdoor outlet). It doesn't use much electricity and the wild ones always have a nice drink of water waiting for them.

Don't forget to add fresh water every other day or so. Keep an eye on the water level (you might get an extra thirsty visitor and have to add water more often).

If our birdbath develops scum in the winter, we empty it; wipe it out with paper towel; rinse and refill.
